New hotels around the world for 2020

From a bursting new project in downtown Las Vegas to new properties in the Caribbean and Europe, 2020 is shaping up to be a great year for new ones.

Hard Rock alone plans to open nine hotels around the world.


Here’s a look at some of the new properties arriving in destinations Canadians love to visit.


The owners of the Circa Resort and Casino in Las Vegas say they’re on track for a year-end opening. It is billed as the first “base” gaming complex in historic downtown Las Vegas in 40 years. Located on the iconic Fremont Street Experience, it’s a 777-room juggernaut that will be the tallest building north of the Strip.

In Florida, the Amrit Ocean Resort & Spa will open on seven oceanfront acres on Singer Island in Palm Beach County. It is meant to be a wellness center based on eastern wellness philosophies and western technology. Look for tranquility pools, Patanjali yoga classes, and specialty sleep services, not to mention a bath concierge and suites with “circadian rhythm lighting.”

Greystone Miami Beach is set to relaunch in February. “Steps from the white sand beach, the historic 1930s hotel embraces the energy of Miami with Art Deco glamor in 91 rooms, a stunning rooftop pool, and a whiskey and dark spirits lounge.”

Hard Rock Hotels is slated to open properties this year in New Orleans, New York and Sacramento.

Secrets Saint Martin is the island’s first new resort in some time and AMResorts’ very first hotel in the French Caribbean. It will be a blow to an island that was severely affected by Hurricane Irma in 2017.

Four Seasons Resorts & Residences is slated to open earlier this year in Calistoga, California. Napa Valley’s first Four Seasons will open with each of the 85 guest rooms offering mountain views. In addition to a vineyard and on-site tasting area, the property will offer a spa with steam pods in which hammocks will be suspended above geothermal pools for guests to soak up the heated steam.

On the Big Island of Hawaii, the all-new Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection is set to debut in January after a resort-wide reimagining and renovation. In Maui, the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa is completing phase two of its transformation with a multi-million dollar lobby renovation.

Karisma Hotels & Resorts, in partnership with Margaritaville Holdings, is taking reservations for Margaritaville Island Reserve through Karisma Riviera Cancun, the Margaritaville brand’s first all-inclusive resort experience. Its opening is scheduled for March 2020.

Speaking of Jimmy Buffett, Margaritaville Hotels are also slated to open this year in New York and San Diego, as well as Negril, Jamaica and Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic. Also, look for a Margaritaville Beach Resort in Nassau, Bahamas.

Construction is well advanced on the Ritz-Carlton, Paradise Valley (Scottsdale), which will span 20 acres and have 215 rooms. It is planned for a summer opening.

Fans of luxury properties will want to check out the new Ritz-Carlton in Mexico City, JW Marriott Orlando Bonnet Creek, JW Marriott Anaheim Resort, and JW Marriott Tampa Water Street, part of the stunning urban renaissance of downtown Tampa.

In the Dominican Republic, Club Med is scheduled to open a Finest Punta Cana hotel (their third Excellence Collection property in the Dominican Republic) on September 1.

The Fairmont Century Plaza, located in Century City, Los Angeles, will open in 2020 after a major renovation. This mid-century wonder has played host to generations of Hollywood celebrities, foreign dignitaries and all of the Presidents of the United States since it opened in 1966. The hotel has two acres of gardens, connected to local plazas and fountains.

The Fairmont El San Juan in Puerto Rico will officially join the Fairmont Hotels & Resorts portfolio starting in January. El San Juan is located on award-winning Isla Verde Beach, just minutes from Old San Juan, downtown San Juan, and Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport.

Kimpton, a brand that combines a hip, youthful approach with a top-notch environment, will open several hotels across the Americas next year, including the Caribbean island of Grenada. Kimpton Kawana Bay in Grenada is expected to open mid-year.

Other Kimpton openings in 2020 include Roatan, a beautiful island that is part of Honduras, Mexico City, Dallas, and Asheville, North Carolina.

The first Six Senses hotel in the United States is slated to open in New York City later this year. Located next to the fabulous High Line Park in Chelsea, it is already attracting a lot of attention for its bold design.

Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts will open a luxury hotel and private residences in downtown New Orleans at the end of the year.

The Pendry West Hollywood is slated to launch in California this summer. Located on the famous Sunset Strip, it’s said to be an “eye-catching” design meant to invoke “California glory”.

Montage Healdsburg is called “a transformative hideaway nestled in the hills of Sonoma County, providing travelers with a convenient and luxurious base from which to explore the destination’s famous wineries and farm-to-table restaurants. Look for an opening in October 2020.


Just steps from the Trevi Fountain, the Iberostar Grand Fontana di Trevi extends 19th-century Art Deco design elements into 67 rooms, two exclusive restaurants, and a spectacular rooftop terrace with city views.

In Switzerland, Philippe Starck restored the century-old historic hotel Eden au Lac, the only luxury establishment on Lake Zurich, which will have 40 rooms and suites (the majority with a view of the lake).

Hard Rock Hotels is expected to open a variety of hotels in Europe this year, including new or reconstructed projects in Amsterdam, Budapest, Dublin, Madrid and Barcelona, ​​the latter being a hotel adjacent to Forum Beach.

The Guardsman is slated to open in April at London’s exclusive Buckingham Gate with 53 unique rooms and six exclusive residences. “The Guardsman offers the atmosphere, discretion and personalized service associated with a private member’s club.”

Located in Leicester Square, The Londoner is billed as ‘the world’s first super boutique hotel’, whatever that means. Look for six underground levels and 350 rooms at a property that means ‘showcasing the energy of London’s West End through unique design, innovative social spaces and distinctive restaurants’.

Located off the peaceful central west coast of Italy, by the Tyrrhenian Sea, The Sense Experience Resort is an eco-friendly retreat made up of 12,000 acres of natural park and pine forest with a private beach in the Maremma region. in Tuscany.

Pestana Hotels & Resorts’ newest hotel will be located on the banks of the Douro River in Porto, Portugal.

The Kimpton Vividora hotel in Barcelona will mark the brand’s debut in Spain. The hotel will be located in the city’s Gothic Quarter. Kimpton will also open new hotels in Paris and Manchester.

If you’re more in the mood for the W Hotel, look for new properties this year in Bali and Melbourne.

In Tokyo (and just in time for the Summer Olympics), the Kimpton Shinjuku will be close to the iconic Shibuya Passage and will have a rooftop bar open only to VIPs.

Opened in Spring 2020 on a hilltop in Jimbaran Bay, Raffles Bali will offer stunning ocean views from just 32 private villas.

InterContinental Hotels will be opening properties in Yokohama, Japan this year, as well as the Koh Yao Yai Resort in Thailand.
