Hawaii Families Affected by Navy Water Contamination May Have to Change Hotels and Pay Out of Pocket

HONOLULU (KHON2) – Families still staying in hotels due to marine water contamination may have to move places or pay more out of pocket soon.

The military said this was due to a temporary increase in accommodation that ran from December 17, 2021 into the holiday season, which falls to pre-holiday rates on Thursday. Families are advised to check if their hotel room rates have dropped.

“Most of the hotels we have seen have lowered their rates after this holiday period. We don’t know that all of them have done it, which is why we are trying to get this word out, ”said Major Zachary Mason, Cmdr. 15th controller and squadron. “If you’re in a hotel that hasn’t lowered that rate, you might want to change your situation. “

Meanwhile, the Navy said it plans to start home flushing in Hale Moku and Hokulani on Thursday.

They are still awaiting test results from the Pearl City Peninsula to clean up homes where the flush has already been completed.
